"Ever since I could breathe, all I ever wanted to do was sing"

A melodious vocalist, relatable and honest lyricist and gifted musician, Trace Kennedey is a jack of all trades and the master of one. An overall talented entertainer, the 25-year-old former member of X FACTOR’s the Stereo Hogzz has recently embarked on an exciting journey as a solo artist.

A Houston native, Trace cites his mother, also a singer who gave up her career to care for him, as one of his most valuable artistic influences. The initial faith in his gift and commitment he received from his mother, his first musical idol, is what keeps him going today. “That’s why I will never let any person or any event keep me from achieving my dream. My mom didn’t give up on me, so I won’t give up on it.” Other singers who influenced his style include Michael Jackson, Sarah Vaughn, Musiq Soulchild, Lauryn Hill, Bilal and Usher, among others.

Trace got his start at an early age when he attended a performing arts middle school. There, he learned the basics of music theory. He later went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at the High School for the Performing Arts. During that time, he won several singing competitions - including national competitions - before studying studied jazz vocal at New York’s acclaimed New School University.

His classical and jazz music education ultimately added and depth and texture to the singing style he developed naturally through the genres he grew up on - R&B and gospel. “What I listened to at home and in church made me the singer I am today, and is why I feel I can sing absolutely anything anyone puts in front of me.”

Trace’s big break came when the Stereo Hogzz auditioned and made it on FOX’S hit TV show THE X FACTOR. His coach, industry veteran Paula Abdul, mentored the group, who with Trace as the lead singer, went on to make the top 11 finalists in the competition.
Since THE X FACTOR, Trace has completed a concert tour in South America, started a successful modeling career and has traveled across the country singing the national anthem at both NFL and NBA games. He’s currently in the studio writing and producing new music for his first album – a project that will showcase both the truthful lyrics and pure and soulful vocals which have come to define Trace Kennedey’s unique and signature style.
